Biography

There is something about the space between reality and dream. How can we be sure what is real? When does it change? Is there a line to cross or are we constantly wavering in the layers between? My work explores this space.

A fascination for human behaviour, rituals, our keepsakes and our connection to nature fuels my practice as well as a love of storytelling, which forms an important part of my work. Tiny stories and snippets of conversations making their way through found objects, paint and soft sculpture, creating a dance of connectedness travelling from the micro to the macro.

Drawing and painting is an integral starting point for my practice however the majority of my finalised works are sculptural, utilising repetitive making by hand. I work in an intuitive way, employing a vast range of mediums and processes.

The work I create speaks of rituals, belonging, sacredness and the absurdity of it all: the divine comedy of the human experience. For me, art making is giving shape and form to an abstract idea or emotion while connecting with emptiness and the generations that came before me as well as humanity as a whole.

I’m inspired by folk art and making dating back to stone carvings in my native Sweden as well as my country’s traditional crafts such as wood carving, weaving, beading and textile art. As an artist, my aim is to explore and add to the cultural conversation as it relates to contemporary art.
